The Blind Side (2009)
Starring Sandra Bullock, Quentin Aaron, and Tim McGraw
Directed by John Lee Hancock
Rated PG-13 for one scene involving brief violence, drug and sexual references
2 hours
A Best Picture nominee featuring the Best Actress and it’s all in a movie about sports? That sounds as close to a slam dunk as you can get. Only it turned out to be just a routine layup. The story of Michael Oher being taken in by the Touhys, then finding great success in football is a good one – it’s just executed too much like a Disney film. The coach is played with Don Knotts-like ineptness and everything is just wrapped too neatly. I enjoyed it, but I can’t believe that Bullock’s was the best performance by an actress in 2009 and that this was one of the top 10 films.
Grade: B
Of the 2009 Best Picture nominees, here is my ranking so far:
1. Inglourious Basterds
2. Up
3. District 9
4. The Blind Side
5. The Hurt Locker
… and I still think that Star Trek is better than all of them.
Yeah, Inglorious Basterds, Up, and District 9 were awesome. Haven’t seen the Blind Side, thought it looked too much like a chick flick with football. I have the Hurt Locker on my Netflix. Star Trek was amazing.
